About 2 Corinthians 4.7:AbAAWhen I first began and named this blog, I called it “a jar of clay” from 2 Corinthians 4.7…

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

It is quite common among us who are committed to following Jesus Christ, who live our lives by His Word, and who seek His pleasure and Glory in everything we do…to adopt a ‘life-verse.’

Not that all the other words of God are any less important to us, but because some words have been used by the Holy Spirit to especially impact our lives at some point and direct the course of the rest of our lives forward from that experience.

2 Corinthians 4.7 is such a verse and passage in my own faith-journey with Christ. In fact, over 50 years ago, through painful grace-training experiences, I actually began writing this Scripture reference into my very signature.

We ourselves are the vessels of clay with all our weaknesses, infirmities – faults, frailties, failures, and foibles.

But, God, in His sovereign pleasure and will is pleased to save us through faith in His Son – and then deposit His own Glory in us.

Jesus Christ Himself is the ‘Treasure’ God entrusts to us.

And then, in addition to His own Life living in us, He also gives us the inestimable privilege to be ministers of His Glory to others.

I am that ‘jar of clay.’
